Summary

Before his ascent to rock stardom, Dave Grohl was a store clerk at the iconic Tower Records.

It was during a stint in the Washington DC store that he and Tower Records stalwart Bob Zimmerman crossed paths for the first time.

The pair became reacquainted when Bob relocated to run Tower’s Seattle store in the early 1990s.

With Tower Records an integral part of America’s music culture, Bob had a ringside seat during Nirvana’s peak years and the subsequent emergence of the Foo Fighters.

In this episode, Bob, who hosts the podcast ‘2500 Del Monte Street: The Oral History of Tower Records’, shares some of his memories from that era.

Topics Discussed

  • Tower Records’ culture and impact
  • Working with Dave Grohl at the Washington DC store
  • The Seattle scene and peak Nirvana years
